Arusha beauty queen vies for Miss World Tourism titleby Valentine Marc Nkwame
Arusha beauty queen, Magreth Mmari (21), who holds the two pioneer titles of Miss Tourism Arusha 2003 and the first ever Miss Tourism Tanzania will represent the country in the World’s Miss Tourism pageant in December this year. Magreth, a student at the Arusha branch of Tropical Centre of Hotel, Tourism and Business Management said she had no idea where the event was scheduled to take place. This is the first time that Tanzania is officially going to be represented. Magreth, who was also the third runner- up to "Miss Arusha 2002" beauty contest, will meanwhile, be digging deep into her study books on international tourism. "As soon as I am officially introduced to the Arusha Regional Commissioner, I will embark on domestic tourism promotion campaigns", she divulged. Magreth beat other 19 participants who took part in the debut Miss Tourism Tanzania pageant held at Diamond Jubilee hall in Dar es Salaam on the 31st of December 2003. She was presented with an Omega Opel car valued at Tsh.25 million. The vehicle is however, still in Dar es Salaam with her relatives. Her first runner- up, May John from Dar es salaam was given a motor boat while the third runner- up, Amina Machuru from Rukwa region, was awarded with a "course" at the Dar es Salaam University. Magreth’s course at the Tropical Centre was a compliment
from the Institute’s Management after she had won the debut Miss Arusha Tourism
title last year.
