An
aura of glee and relish dominated the environment at the National Natural
History Museum garden in Arusha last Saturday as more than 50 artists from
various entertainment groups performed at their best in a music festival
organised by Via Via Meeting Place.
Over 500 guests including tourists thronged the Via Via grounds at the Old
Boma premises to witness performances that included theatre, rap, rhythm and
blues, reggae, acrobatics and drama.
Groups that participated in the festival
included Marahaba Generation, Vichwa Huru, Nambala Hip Hop, Kush Kemet and
Nyota Acrobats. Others are Uwassa Cultural Troupe, African Traditional
Dance, Mikumi Band and the Sound of Serengeti.
The festival was aimed at promoting the
culture of Tanzania within and outside the borders.
The Via Via Meeting Place is a Tanzanian
non governmental organization (NGO) that organises cultural events like
exhibitions and workshops on arts, music concerts and dance performances.
Recently, Vi Via established a theatre
group that was trained for development with the aim of focussing on social
critical themes in the society.
The Via Via Cultural Coordinator, Ms
Kathleen Bluekens said Via Via’s main targets are to stimulate Tanzanian
arts and artists, promote the National Natural History Museum of Arusha and
stimulate awareness and dance performances.
