by Nassib Majamba
A 32-year-old French man identified as Christopher Ory and resident of Dar es
salaam city has appeared in court in Arusha for allegedly obtaining goods using
a forged credit card.
Ory, who is reported to be a shipping agent, is charged with acquiring
electronic items valued at US$ 1615 from Benson and Company Limited, then paying
off with a fake Master Card.
Pressing the charges before the Resident Magistrate, Felister Mushi, the public
prosecutor, ASP Bazil Pandisha told the court that the accused had committed the
offence last month.
The French citizen is said to have gone to Benson electronic company retail
stores, along Sokoine road and bought five cellular phone handsets worth US$
1195 and two Discman portable CD players valued at US$ 420.
He then paid for the items using a Master Card with number 5409-7600-2000-0472
which had a validity period of up to July 2005.
However, it was, allegedly, later discovered upon electronic scanning, that the
Master Card was actually a fraudulent piece.
The accused, while admitting to have shopped at Benson and Company Limited, has
however denied to have used a forged Master Card.
Ory, is still being held under custody due to lack of sureties to back his bail.
Police are continuing with investigations of the case.
