Traffic officer becomes new AFC chairman"Club holds first election in five years"By Arusha Times Reporter After five years without official leadership, the Arusha Football Club (AFC) last week conducted General Elections in which a Traffic Police Officer, Salim Basho Mboga was elected the chairman. Basho, scooped 43 votes out of the 58 members who attended the first General meeting which was held at the Arusha Municipal Hall and supervised by the assistant registrar for the Municipal council, Omary Sule. The officer beat four other contestants for the top AFC post. The assistant chairman post went to, Ngwabi Mrisho Mashaka, who is the current manager for the Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium. Ngwabi got a whooping 56 votes, beating his two other opponents. The Secretary General of AFC is now, Mbwana Makata who got 50 points, thrashing his two opponents. The Assistant Secretary General is Peter Zayumba, who was voted into the post by 39 members. Aziz Mhando, was voted the club=s Treasurer, to be assisted by Ali Tuwa Mwakalinga, both beat their opponents by landslide. The election was a heated one, full of controversy and underground lobbying. Veteran Sports writer, Nassib Kisha Majamba, was elected to take the new post of Publicity Secretary. Majamba got 32 votes, beating his only opponent, Allen Kingazi who got 22 votes. The General election also came up with three committee members; Asha Ally Mtumwa, who got 43 votes, Issa Athuman with 33 votes and Omar Walii Ally who reaped, 24 votes. A total of 11 members vied for places in the committee.
