Wanderers bowl over ExpatriatesIn the opening game of the new Arusha Region Cricket Association (ARCA) Cup, The Wanderers narrowly defeated the Expatriates. The ARCA Cup, comprising five teams from Arusha, will be played as a round robin tournament over the next three months, culminating in a final to be played in late march next year. The Wanderers, formerly known as Alliance, started their campaign in fine style last Sunday at the Gymkhana ground against a team that they have failed to defeat over the past few seasons. Sent into bat on a turning wicket, the Wanderers were in trouble early at three wickets down for 30 runs. A middle order partnership of 64 between inspirational Wanderers captain John ATrogdor@ Stewart and Guy Rowe steadied the ship and laid the foundation for a highly competitive total of 148 after the allotted 30 overs. Buoyed by a fine batting display, the Wanderers opening bowlers tore through the Expatriates top and middle order batsman to have them reeling at 6 wickets down for a poultry 75 runs after 15 overs. From the commencement of play after the drinks interval, Silva took it upon himself to bring the Expatriates back into the game with a AKluesneresque@ half century before holing out to a fine catch to Mark Baker. From there, the Expatriates were always going to struggle to reach the victory target of 149 runs and despite some tense moments late in the game, the Wanderers were able to cap off a fine all round team performance and bowl out the Expatriates five runs short of the victory target. The next game of the ARCA Cup will be played on the 12th of December at the Gymkhana Ground between Kilimeru and Swamibapa.
