Arusha MP, Felix Mrema

Call to support privately owned schools

By Matilda Kirenga

Kilimani Primary school located in Sekei is in dire need of classrooms for its increasing student population.

But out of Shs. 23 million budgeted for the expansion of the English Medium School, only Shs. 3.6 million was realized during a fund raising initiative organised at the Golden Rose Hotel on December 4.

The function was presided by the Member of Parliament for Arusha, Mr. Felix Mrema  who urged institutions and members of the public to support schools regardless of who owns it.

AFor me there is no difference whether a school is privately or Government owned. I am ready to  help, whenever I am  invited to do so@, he said.

Mr. Mrema said that what he values is the quality of education which is offered  by the school.

However, he criticized congestion in classrooms in most schools in the   Municipality  where one can find  more than 120 pupils in a classroom meant for only 45 pupils.

Earlier, the School Headteacher, Mr. Elibariki  Nnko pointed out that his school, which started in 1998 as a kindergaten, is now a fully fledged primary school with about 430 pupils.
