7m/- raised for Kijenge MosqueBy Matilda Kirenga A total of sh. 7.2 million has been raised for the proposed project to construct the Aqlaf mosque and its complementing Madrasat classes situated in the Kijenge area of the Arusha municipality. The fund raising efforts were conducted at the Arusha Primary School and graced by the speaker of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), Abdulrahman Kinana, who pledged his own contribution of, Tsh. 500,000. Also contributing Tsh.500,000 was the Member of Parliament for Arusha constituency, Felix Christopher Mrema. A local businessman, Sheikh Salim surpassed it all by placing on the table Tsh.2.5 million as his personal contribution. Kinana cautioned local Muslims against Inter-denomination conflicts or divisions saying they not only hindered development but threatened the country=s peace and stability. He urged Islam followers to highly invest in Education by building schools from Kindergarten level to Higher learning institutions such as colleges and Universities. Speaking during the occasion, the Imam of the Aqlaf Mosque-Kijenge, Sheikh Khamis Kasim, said the spirit of dedication shown by the various contributors was essentially, offering to God, adding that their efforts would be payed for abundantly in Heaven. At least Tsh.200 is required for the construction of the proposed modern buildings to house both the main Aqalf mosque and the Madrasat class rooms for teaching religion at the Islamic center.
