The First Lady Mama Anna Mkapa has hailed the Lions Club of
Arusha for their charity work of offering services to the poor and less
fortunate members of the society.
Mama Mkapa expressed her appreciation when she met members and leaders of the
Arusha Lions Club during the Lions Governor's Night in Dar es Salaam recently.
"Your work desires the commendation of everyone," she commented after she was
briefed on the activities of the Arusha Lions Club. In attendance was also the
Lions Governor District 411, Safder Jaffer and Lions Tanzania Region "D"
Chairman, Satish Sharma.
Mama Mkapa is also charter president of the Lions Club of Dar es Salaam Kivukoni.
Arusha Lions have extended an invitation to Mama Mkapa to come to Arusha and
visit some of their projects.
Among activities undertaken by the Club for free includes cataract surgeries and
eye screening, the Lion's Quest Programme of educating school children on drug
abuse and HIV/AIDS; and continuous support to various children's home in the
region.
The Club actively engages in road safety by installing and painting road marks.
The Club last month hosted a children=s party for orphans at the Arusha
Institute.
