The Centre for Educational Development in Health -Arusha (CEDHA) is currently on its mark getting set to start offering  Master=s degree programs  in Health Personnel Education  as from October next year.

This was revealed by the Centre=s Acting Principal, Dr. David Martin  during the institution=s 18th graduation ceremony last week.  The Master=s degree courses will be conducted at CEDHA under  Tumaini Lutheran University.

Dr. Martin said that  his institution has had a long unshakable experience in health personnel education and is now mature enough for Master=s degree programs. He urged the 17 graduates of Diploma course for the Teachers Preparation Program (TPP), to join the Master=s degree course, as soon as it was possible for them.

Already the centre has started to receive  inquiries for the course from abroad. It is expected that  the Master=s degree program at CEDHA will be less expensive  compared to others abroad so it will attract many students.

CEDHA was established in 1983, but the Teachers Preparation Program was initiated  in 1985, when the institution was challenged to ensure that the right capacities are being instituted in all allied health and nursing schools in Tanzania.

The recently graduated TPP batch of 17, included; Clinical officers, Health officers, Anesthetic officers, Nursing officers and Occupational therapists from, Uganda and Tanzania, who were presented with certificates by the Guest of Honor during the ceremony, Dr. Gilbert Mliga, the Director of Human Resources Development, in the Ministry of Health.

Dr. Mliga assured the graduates that their newly acquired skills would  prove to be effective tools in molding them to become both best trainers and managers in  their respective institutions, adding that he had high trust in the program examiners; Dr.Godfrey Gomile from the Christian Social Service Commission and Dr.John Mosha, from the primary Health Care Institute of Iringa. He said they are  both  well known experts  as far as Medical education in Tanzania is concerned.

Meanwhile, CEDHA is currently involved in a consortium with World Vision Tanzania (WVT), Kilimanjaro Christian Medical College (KCMCC) and UMATI, in an integrated project to combat HIV-AIDS among the youths in the 17 Area Development Programs of the World Vision which are located in the Lake Zone, Northen Zone, Eastern and Central Zones of Tanzania.
