Sheikh Kisiwa to referee soccer in Muslim attire

by Valentine Marc Nkwame

The Arusha Regional Muslim sovereign, Sheikh Ally Kisiwa, has spoken about his forthcoming role as referee for the soccer match between Catholic and Lutheran clergy.

Sheikh Kisiwa revealed that he won’t be wearing sports gear during the football game set to be held on the 29th of February 2004.

"I will conduct the game in my usual "Kanzu!" Kanzu is a long, white gown usually won by Muslim, this is normally topped with a "Bhargash" cap.

The soccer match between Catholic priests and Lutheran pastors is being organised as one of the event to mark the 25th anniversary of the Catholic Archbishop Josaphat Louis Lebulu.

It is expected that, the money to be collected from the soccer match at the Sheikh Amri Abeid stadium will be invested in the proposed, Arusha refuge home for destitutes and orphans.

Other events include the recently held, grand Catholic choirs conference which took place last Sunday at the Unga Limited parish.

Also to mark the event is a special Baptism mass to be conducted by Archbishop Lebulu in the course of this week, when about 800 children born out of wedlock will be receiving the "grace" of being welcomed in the church. Normally, the Catholic church only recognizes those children born by officially married couples.
