Arusha Rhinos, the defending champions, went down to a shock 18-17 defeat to the Moshi Kili Cats last weekend.

Arusha opened the scoring midway through the first half when the Rhino’s Flyhalf, Albie picked up a loose ball at the back of the scrum and went over the line. Within minutes Moshi had equalised.

Jack Apondi took a quick tap penalty midway inside his own half. Good interplay between Apondi, Zac Peterson and Martin Skarp saw the ball being run up the pitch for Apondi to finish off the move and score an unconverted try.

The second half followed the pattern of the first half, with Arusha dominating up front. They scored their second and third tries, again from scrums, after been camped down on the Moshi try line.

Excellent running from the Moshi backs saw them reduce the deficit to 2 points after Eric Kinsey scored their 3rd try in the! corner. With 11 minutes to go, Moshi were awarded a penalty kick 30 metres out from the posts, which Marcelo easily kick over to put Moshi in front for the first time in the game.

Arusha went straight back on the offensive, but some colossal tackling and huge defensive kicks from Moshi, saw them hold Arusha at bay and claim top position in the Premier League.

Arusha get a chance to make addends for this defeat when they face Dar es Salaam at ISM Arusha Campus this Saturday 31st January.
