E-mail: arushatimes@habari.co.tzmailbag1 Sakina slaughterhouse choking neighboursFor a long time Sakina residents, particularly those living behind the abattoir, have endured environmental problems being caused by the slaughterhouse at Sakina. Waste water from the facility is being directed towards residential houses, south of the abattoir. The water stinks and accumulates in ponds where mosquitoes are allowed to breed and eventually end in our houses. It is worth mentioning that the abattoir is owned by the Arusha Municipal Council which has always campaigned against malaria as well as advocated prevention of the killer-disease. One wonders whether they are aware of what is going on at their facility in Sakina. In view of the above, we would like to call upon the Municipal Health authorities and NEMC to inspect the facility and the surrounding areas so that appropriate action can be taken against the operators of the plant. Failure to do so will render residents of Sakina vulnerable to Malaria attacks in addition to the environmental hazards which we have already been experiencing. J. R. Mushi
