Suspected robbers arrested in hotel roomThey were found with pistol and injectable chemicalsby Staff Reporters Three local businessmen together with a trader from Kigoma region fell into Police hands on Monday night in what has been described as a bungled robbery attempt targeted at Meru Inn Guest House along Sokoine Road in Arusha Municipality. Regional Police Commander (RPC), James Kombe, said the four suspects were planning to rob the hotel’s storage room in which the money safe and depository box were being kept. Normally, according to Meru Inn Guest House keepers, the safe and deposit box are used to store valuable items and cash money belonging to the hotel clients and they were are all being kept in room number 201. This being the peak tourism season, the Meru Inn, according to sources close to the hotel, is fully booked, such that, when one of the suspect turned up at the guest house, demanding one particular room, he did not only missed it, but his insistence cause suspicion. The suspect introduced himself as Abdallah Ally, a vegetable trader form Kigoma who must have the room number 206, which coincidentally is located opposite to the storage room number 201. But the entire floor was fully occupied so he was allocated room number 302, on the upper floor and it was in this room that he and the other three suspects were arrested. The Regional Police Commander named the other suspects as Alex Mosses (26) who operates a fuel outlet near Sombetini; Godfrey Edward Shirima (39) who owns a large retail store in Unga Limited; and William Muhone (44) also a businessman and happens to be the chairman of the local anti-crime and safety committee for Ngarenaro ward. The four were arrested when the Police were alerted about the suspicious group in room number 302 at Meru Inn. The time of their arrest was about 8.00pm. The suspects were found with a Pistol, a Chinese model with serial number N-009817 and an injection syringe plus dozes of some injectable drugs. The chemicals found with the syringe include; Gentamicin, Metacycline, Diazeparn and Chlorpromazine plus some red, powdered substance. The Police believes that the suspects had planned to drug the hotel attendants or even the guests, before performing the crime which is suspected to have been aimed at the storage room.
