Media Council imparts management skills to scribesBy Valentine Marc Nkwame Officials from the four Press Clubs which are operating in the Northern Zone regions of Tanga, Kilimanjaro, Manyara and Arusha, have undergone a special course on Assets and liabilities Management, which was organized by the Media Council of Tanzania (MCT). The two-day course, was held in Arusha Municipality, at the National Declaration Museum premises, on Thursday, the 19th and Friday, the 20th of August this year. A total of 14 Press club leaders attended the course organised under the MCT’s special programme of strengthening local media institutions in the country. The main aim for the course, which has also taken part in other regions, was to equip local press club leaders with basic knowledge on how to manage finances, handle and safeguard office facilities, for their respective institutions. Course facilitators, during the Arusha base training, were; John Nguya, the MCT Accountant. Henry Muhukinga, a trainer from the council and the MCT Coordinator of training, George Nyembela. The two day session of training, was officially opened by the Accounts, Finance and Administration Manager of the Arusha International Conference Centre (AICC), Elishilia Kaaya, last year’s Award winner of the annual American National Poetry contest 2003. Apart from the new Manyara Media club (MAMEC), all the other press clubs of Arusha (APC) Kilimanjaro (KPC) and Tanga (TPC) have already received sets of office equipment and machinery, from the Media Council of Tanzania, all being donations from the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA).
