TFA brings "one stop shopping" idea to Arushaby John F. Masare
The Tanganyika Farmers Association (TFA) Shopping Centre in Ngarenaro is vigorously continuing with the second phase of its ambitious three-phase commercial project. According to Ms Colleen Hogg, Project Development Advisor at the centre, the second phase, also known as the"Western Wing" is due to be completed by October of this year. Twenty five shops and services in the new wing are meant to complement those in the recently opened "Eastern Wing". They will include a bank, chemist, stationery, hair dressers, mobile phone store as well as many other businesses. "We are encouraging local entrepreneurs to set up their businesses within our centre", Ms Hogg said. "Too often, people travel as far as Nairobi for goods and services which can be provided here in Arusha". In the third and final phase, due for completion in April of 2005, there will also be a large indoor market place, cultural gallery, child care centre, swimming pool as well as opportunities for such small scale businesses as iron mongers, and fresh vegetable sellers. The TFA Shopping Centre was officially opened in September 2002 with the Shoprite Supermarket as the hub.
