Mpwapwa and Mwanga water authorities share experiencesBy Sharmila Aggrey Officers of the Mpwapwa Urban Water Authority have conducted a study tour of the Mwanga Urban Water Authority (MWAUSA) in Kilimanjaro Region to share experiences on how best to serve their customers. The Mwanga District Commissioner, Mr. Reuben Ole Kuney urged the officers of the water authorities to collaborate with the public so that the latter could accept any changes which would affect them or require them to participate actively in water provision. Mr. Kuney said this following complaints aired by MWAUSA Manager, Mr. Kibakaya Senkoro that his authority has been facing difficulty with customers whenever the authority attempted to connect water meters. His authority has succeeded to connect only 130 out of the required 1,000 gadgets. Mr. Senkoro said that the customers refused the meters to be fixed in their water pipes due to allegations that monthly water bills would be hiked. The visiting Manager of Mpwapwa Urban Water Authority, Mr. Shadrack Malimba said that in his urban area they disconnected all the water pipes and when the customers turned up to complain, they were educated on the necessity a of having water meters in their premises and they positively accepted the move. In the tour, the delegation visited Makorora water source and several water reservoirs.
