MS-TCDC accredits development studies with BAby Staff Writer
The Main National Diploma Course in Development Studies being offered at the Usa River- based, Training Centre for Development Co-operation (MS-TCDC) has acquired a new title. This was revealed by the MS-TCDC Principal, Ulla Godtfredsen during the graduation ceremony for the year 2003-2004,development studies, programme participants. The principal said the 21 students who graduated last week, were going to be the last Development Studies (DS) course participants to be awarded with Diplomas. Ulla explained that due to circumstances in Europe, from this year onwards, DS course students will be awarded with the BA title instead. She however added that the course content will remain the same and emphasized that whether DS is accredited with a Diploma or a BA, Development Studies at MS-TCDC are for adult practitioners. Accredited by the Higher Education and Training Awards Council (HETAC) in Ireland, the Diploma in Development Studies is one of the main courses being offered at the MS-TCDC institution of Usa River. For several years, TCDC ran the programme at certificate level in partnership with the Development Studies Centre at Kimmage Manor in Ireland. In 2001, the course was upgraded to diploma level. Since its inception in 1995, a total of 159 men and women have successfully completed the course and awarded with certificates and diplomas. The 22 graduates who completed their DS training course this year hailed from Ethiopia, Zambia, Uganda, Kenya, Zimbabwe and Tanzania. Guest of honour during the ceremony was the National Director of World Vision Tanzania (WVT), George Mkanza, who also happens to be a former board member at MS-TCDC. He said, both MS-TCDC and WVT share a common goal in training and capacity building for development oriented actors.
