UEFA EURO 2004 underway

The premiere footballing nations of Europe come together this month with the start of the prestigious UEFA EURO 2004 tournament that begins in Portugal on June 12.

African sports fans can tune in to DStv for comprehensive coverage of the event including live broadcasts, up-to-the-minute news and additional information.

Leading the way is sportscaster SuperSport which will show live coverage of the games including in-depth analysis and expert opinion from studio presenters and analysts such as Gary Bailey, Terry Paine, Thomas Mlambo, Zeca Marques, Eddie Lewis, Roald Poulsen, Stefano Vigoriti and Milija Aleksic to name a few .

Also in studio for SuperSport will be former African Player of the Year Kalusha Bwalya from Zambia and Pitso Mosimane, Head Coach for SuperSport United. These leading football professionals will bring their game insight and understanding to bear in ensuring that fans are constantly given the best information.

In total it is estimated that live coverage from Portugal and from the studios adds up to nearly 130 hours of SuperSport coverage during the 31-match, 16-country tournament. Further in the last round-robin stage, two matches will be played and televised simultaneously on SuperSport 3 and SuperSport 5 every day.

In addition the news channel programs World Sport on CNN and Sport Today on BBC World, both available on DStv, will also be in Portugal covering the event and audiences can look out for news about the fan frenzy, the football fever and loads more from the tournament.

Meanwhile BBC FOOD has a plan to keep footie fans well fed for the tournament. Tune in to the channel from June 12 at 19:00 CAT ? 23:00 CAT to watch GRUB FOR THE GAME ? a series of programs dedicated to quick and easy dishes to make and eat in front of the TV. Look out for Ainsely Harruot?s Take-Away snacks while Nigella Lawson creates her own Fast Food and Giorgio Locatelli offers up Food for the Boys.

The SuperSport Zone on DStv Channel 20 will also be on hand to provide fixure lists and updated results logs as and when fans require this information. And the website will also be continuously uploaded with the latest from Portugal.

The UEFA EURO 2004 is the latest in a line of sporting events covered comprehensively by DStv in the last twelve months. Other events in the recent past include the Africa Cup of Nations, the Rugby World Cup and the 2003/2004 UEFA Champions League. In the next three months, DStv will provide comprehensive coverage of Wimbledon, 2004 Athens Olympic Games and the 2004/2005 English Premier League on SuperSport.
