Tanzanian rugby side ready for Rwanda

Weeks of hard work and training culminates this
afternoon in the Tanzanian rugby side clashing with Rwanda in the second game of
the regional tri-nation series at Braeburn School in Arusha.
Coming off a comprehensive victory over the third
team in the competition, Burundi, Tanzania goes into today’s game mentally and
physically prepared for what is expected to be a tough encounter.
Last weekend in Dar es Salaam, the side attended
a training camp where they were put through a gruelling set of tasks by coach
Tinus Aucamp, starting with a biathlon on Saturday morning. The event was
organised by the International School Tanganyika (IST) and comprised a 250 metre
swim followed by a four kilometre run. The Tanzanian rugby side finished in the
top three places in the senior section of the event, highlighting the fitness of
the squad.
After the biathlon, the team was put through
their paces on the IST circuit training course for an hour by Sergeant Steve
before finishing off the day with a team training run at the Gymkhana oval.
In the lead up to the game between Tanzania and
Rwanda at 4pm today, the Tanzanian Rugby Union will be hosting a number of
curtain raiser games. Kick off will be at 12.30 pm with a girls seven a side
competition, followed by a school boy’s 10 a side game and an Old Boys/School
Boys verses an Arusha Invitation Team, 15 a side game.
The winner of the main game between Tanzania and
Rwanda will most likely progress through to the Regional 16’s tournament to be
held in Swaziland later this year.
