Facelift for Via Via Cultural Café

by Our Correspondent

In between the beat of drums that accompany dancers rehearsing on stage, the sound of hammering can be heard: Via Via cultural café is undergoing a facelift. The idea is to create the ultimate atmosphere for cultural expressions.

The outside stage in the garden is also under major works which will incorporate an all weather roof, so that whatever the season ‘the show can go on’.

Via Via plans to create even more space for performing artists. After renovation of the bar/restaurant area there will be a second smaller stage. Via Via hopes to get people interested in jam-nights, trial-sessions and as interest develops small performances will be organized on this stage as well. During big festivals both stages will be used.

"By providing people with a good spot to perform, we hope to get more artists interested in showing what they’re up to on stage. We also hope to encourage new talent. The small stage will be a perfect and informal place to try out a new song, a groovy rhythm or a new dance-pattern", says Loez Keizer, Via Via Director of Culture and Publicity.

The renovation-works will be finished next month.

In the meantime Via Via is open for the public. On the 5th of June Via Via hosts the ‘Youth for World Peace Festival’ with diverse performances on the outside stage from 11.00am till early evening. On the 19th of June Via Via organizes a talent-show for traditional dance groups, starting 14.00
