Arusha Modern scoops first prize in annual inter school competitionby Liz Sengwaji The up and coming Arusha Modern School on May 22 emerged overall winner of the academic annual inter-school competition held at the premises of Sekei Secondary School along Kanisa Road in Arusha. The overall winner among the 11 schools which participated in the competition organized by the Rotary Club of Arusha was presented with a brand new computer. The grand prize was sponsored by the Rotary Club. The first runner up, St. Constantine’s International School was awarded a set of encyclopedias while the second runner up Jaffery Academy were offered two computer course of a duration of one month each at Arion Computer and Expertise who also sponsored the prize. The competition involved various categories including Essay writing, Debating, Painting and General Knowledge and Quiz. Competitors were drawn from Jaffery Academy, Nkoanrua Secondary School, St. Constantine’s International School, Sekei Secondary School, Edmund Rice Secondary School and St. Joseph Secondary School. Others are Arusha Modern School, Kimandolu Secondary School, Maji-ya-Chai Secondary School, Makumira and Arusha Meru secondary schools. The Painting competition was won by 1. Obadia from Makumira,; 2. Russel from St. Constantine, and 3. Benjamin from Makumira. Winners of the Essay writing competition were: 1. Judy Kanja from St. Joseph, 2. Shazdah Sandy from Arusha Meru and 3. Beatrice Awinow from St. Joseph. Winners for Debating, best teams of two students were: 1. Jaffery 2. Arusha Modern and 3. Arusha Modern. The Quiz competition was won by: 1. Oscar Lwoga, Joseph Olila and Daniel Anthony of Arusha Modern School, 2. Andrew Michael, John Fillipo and Nicholas of Edmund Rice, and 3. Shahina Ibrahim and Don Mwaipopo of Jaffery. According to Monique Janmaat , Director of Vocational Services of the Rotary Club of Arusha, the competition was a great success especially in sharing knowledge. She thanked all sponsors of the event.
