When
15 fetuses are found packed in polythene bags and dumped along the road
By: Boniface Mouti
For those who like keeping abreast of regional news you will agree with me that
last week was a very sad week for Kenyans and a big embarrassment and shame for
all. It was news everywhere in the Kenyan press. The saddest part of it was that
it was sad and painful news. It was a trying moment for the Kenyan community and
by extension to all of us men and women. 15 fetuses were found packed in
polythene papers and dumped along the road. Report indicates that those who did
the action intended to dump them in a nearby passing river, but changed their
mind and fled when the watchmen confronted them.
There are things in life that we can stop to reason and rationalize together but
when it comes to issues of life especially those of innocent victims, then it
hurts and pains if we spend time philosophizing about them. There are no two
options in life. Whether conceived or still growing in our tummies. The question
we ask, why do people choose to kill innocent lives? The second question is, why
do people decide to conceive and later on change their minds? Where are we
heading to as a society? Some people will defend and argue about abortion as
being carried out by young girls who are not ready to assume the role of
parents. Far away from the truth. Statistics available confirm that 50% of the
women visiting gynecologists for abortion are married women with children
already. My other question is to the doctors, why do they participate in
terminating pregnancies by killing the very lives that they have taken an oath
to protect? I can hear someone murmuring! ?Why is this guy pulling Kenyan
stories to our scenes?? But my question again is, what is the difference between
Kenya and Tanzania? Let me phrase this question in another format. What makes a
Kenyan Luo different from a Tanzanian Luo? Is abortion taking place in Tanzania?
Are some doctors in Arusha and Tanzania in general taking part in this kind of
heinous acts?
A couple of days in this same column I wrote about abortion. I was against
abortion, I am still against abortion and will continue being anti-abortion. I
will not change for truth is immutable and life is sacred and should be
respected as such. I am not talking as a leader of a religious cult but as a
moralist.
The issue here is not whether or not to legalize abortion but the conscience
that haunts us as humanity. Even in developed countries where people claim their
civilization by legalizing abortion, still very few people opt to do it openly.
It is a sin, a terrible sin! Everyone of us at one time was a fetus, but were
not aborted. How then does that executive lady decides to abort her unborn baby?
Where are the men who father these children? It tells of what we have become as
a society. An immoral bunch of people with no regard for human values. Let me
stop here as my heart continues to weep for those innocent souls. Abortion is
wrong. Abortion is a sin. There?s no Kenyan abortion. No Tanzanian abortion. I
leave you with one Swahili saying, ukiona mwenzako ananyolewa, tia kichwa chako
maji.
