Coca Cola popstar is bad news to Arusha’s youthsby Arusha Times Reporter As the vocal battle to vie for international pop stardome rages in East Africa, courtesy of the Coca Cola sponsored talent hunt television shows, it is becoming apparent that Arusha youths are underdogs when it comes to singing. The show, whose East African leg kicked off here at the Impala hotel on the 7th of February this year with an audition of hundreds of local youths, for the singing talent contest, is entering its fourth month without a single "Pop Star" from Arusha. The brainchild of the Australian-based, Screen Time Access (STA) the Coca Cola popstar reality TV shows is currently being screened in 48 countries, worldwide. This is the first time that East African countries of Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania have been included in the popular show which has been running since 1998. It was estimated that over 1,000 East African youths would be tested during the auditions that took place between February 7 and March 4, in Arusha, Nairobi, Kampala, Mombasa, Mwanza and Dar es Salaam. The ongoing Television shows aired every Sunday night on local stations give both on stage and behind the scene shooting of the auditions which are filled with mirth, humor, sadness and determination of individual recruits. So far, Tanzanian hopefuls are all from either Mwanza or Dar es Salaam cities as all Arushan entries were disqualified within the early days of the auditions. The finals were to see three talented (or lucky) winners being short listed to the ultimate fame of popstardom in which they will record an album in June and taste what it feels to be a mega star.
