Celtel’s prize cheers officer after robberyby Staff Writer For Andondile Mwasambili Talaka, who is an immigration officer at the Kenya-Tanzania border post of Holili, in Kilimanjaro region, life can be a series of strange coincidences. Speaking in Moshi last week, Mwasambili explained that people believed to be robbers had invaded his home in Holili-Rombo on the 6th of April this year and stole therein a Television screen, music system and other pieces of furniture valued at Tsh.900,000. But a month later, the immigration officer received a call from the head offices of the Celtel-Tanzania, a cellular phone network provider, informing him that he had just won Tsh.2 million worth of house furniture in their ongoing "Win-a-house" promotion. Coincidentally, the surprising ‘Good news’ came on a rather similar date of the 6th of May. Mwasambili was officially presented with his prizes on Friday, the 21st of May 2004 in Moshi. The immigration officer was taken to the Moshi branch of the hire-purchase store of Tunakopesha Limited, where he selected for himself household furniture valued at Tsh.2 million. Mwasambili left the stores with a 21-inch Sony Wega flat panel Television screen, a Sony mini Hifi system with VCD decoding soft ware, a four plate electric cooker with oven, a deep freezer, coffee table set, a mountain bike and power stabilizer. The Zonal Branch Acting Manager of Celtel-Tanzania, Regina Luhanga officially handed over the goods to the first promotion winner in the northern zone. Ms Luhanga explained that Mwasambili was also the third winner in the Tsh.2 million category of the Celtel promotion prizes, others being from Musoma district in Mara region and Dar es Salaam. The grand prize in the Celtel’s win-a-house promotion is a Tsh.60 million worth of a luxurious residential mansion to be awarded to any lucky winner, who is also expected to choose the location where he or she, wants the house to be built.
