East African Business Clubs: A new beginning

The first ever East African Business Club was launched at the Mount Meru Hotel this week, during an informal luncheon attended by local business stakeholders. The following are some of their points of view:
by Raymond John

Anup Modha
General Manager
Chemi-Cotex
CTI Chairman for Arusha/Moshi Outreach

Nuwe-Amanya Mushega
Secretary General
East African Community (EAC)

Busso Von Alvensleben
Advisor
East African Business Council

Ogwal Mosses
Trade Specialist
East African Business Council

It is the business community that should be on the East African Community (EAC) driver’s seat but apparently, we seem to be giving the seat away to the bureaucrats.

The local business community did not seem to be interested in the East African Community (EAC) until recently when we signed the Customs Union protocol.

The Arusha Chapter of the East African Business Club marks a new beginning for the East African Business Council (EABC) and will go a long way in popularising the business council at the grassroots.

It is high time we team up, in order to survive in the harsh globalized world.

The Arusha chapter is going to be the first instalment in the series of East African Business Clubs that we intend to establish throughout the major cities of Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

Of course a similar club had been existing in Dar es Salaam but as an independent business club, bearing the same name but not under the East African Business Council.

In the end we plan to establish over 10 business clubs under the EABC chain.

Business associations in Tanzania are all voluntary and self supporting. They act towards serving their members mainly through lobbying and networking.

Under the East African Business Club network, we also intend to address various of our members problems and though the forum is an informal one, it operates under the fully organized East African Business Council (EABC).

The EABC is the direct representative of the business community to the East African Community (EAC).
