The Arusha chapter for the planned, East African Business Clubs Network for Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda was launched this week during an informal luncheon between the local business stakeholders at the Mount Meru Hotel.

Organised by both the East African Business Council (EABC) and the Confederation of Tanzanian Industries (CTI) the Moshi-Arusha Outreach, the Arusha club held its launch meeting in the presence of the Secretary General for the East African Community (EAC), Amanya Mushega.

Set to be established in all major cities of East Africa, the East African Business Club chain is an informal network of entrepreneurs and chief executive officers’ (CEOs) aiming to serve its members by providing information on the work of the East African Business Council and offering free registration in virtual trade fair.

The club chain will also serve as a platform for networking between members of business community at local levels in all major cities of East African.

Under the East African business clubs, there will also be series of luncheons for the members, on a monthly basis with prominent guest speakers.

The EAC Secretary General, Amanya Mushega was the first such prominent guest speaker during the last Tuesday’s inaugural business club luncheon for the Arusha chapter.

Mushega, lauded the effort saying it was a noble idea and that his secretariat was welcoming the initiative as it was in line with the strategy for regional cooperation, which is both proposed to be people centred and private sector driven.

In his speech, the EABC Executive Director, Elly Manjale said his council is currently engaged in several lobbying campaigns and also have overseas business cooperation with Germany and Sweden.

Established in 1997 as an apex body of business associations in East Africa, EABC has 30 members so far, 20 being associations and 10 corporations.
