Two stabbed to death on Union Dayby Matilda Kirenga On Monday, the 26th of April 2004, as people countrywide were busy celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Union between Tanganyika and Zanzibar, two persons were stabbed to death in Arusha. One of the victims, Gadiel Elisha, aged 30 years was stabbed with a knife by a person identified as Hassan Nassoro aged 25. Elisha is reported to have been on his way home from a local drinking pub in Ilkiloriti area of Ngaramtoni at about 6.00 pm in the evening. On his way, he met with Nassoro, who was accompanied by his wife, Asha Athuman (19). Police reports indicate that the deceased knew Nassoro to be a criminal and stated so in drunken trance. This irked Nassoro who thus threw himself onto Elisha and stabbed the latter with a knife, killing him instantly. Other eye witness reports indicate that the deceased had tried to snatch away Nassoro’s wife and that the latter was compelled to fight the intruder. The Police are holding in custody Asha Athuman the wife for further interrogations since the killer managed to escape. Regional Police Commander, James Kombe has named the other victim as Seif Mohammed also aged 30, hailing from Pemba Island, who was killed in Unga Limited area at about midnight, on the same Monday 26th of April. He was stabbed with a sharp object by some unknown people. The late Seif was found with deep cuts on his shoulders and died on his way to Mount Meru Hospital. Meanwhile, the Police are holding a Ugandan citizen, Daudi Lemijio (30), who was also arrested on Union Day in Sinon area. He was suspected of being a criminal. Regional Police Commander, James Kombe said, the suspect was wanted for murder and that on the 20th of April this year, he stole a Suzuki-Samurai vehicle belonging to Godrick M. J. Mamba of Arusha.
