Echo in the Halls
Sitting beside your spotless bed
I would be anywhere else instead
Echo in the halls.
Fear has narrowed your pretty face
Strange lines there I can't erase
Stark accusing walls.
I have forgotten what I meant to say
Only wish now I could go away
But duty calls.
I know you want strength from me
Through this pain, that much I see
How time crawls.
Your friends don't come round no more
At least, not like they did before
But they send shawls.
You want me to explain
Why they don't come back again
Echo, echo
Echo in the halls!
Something that I can't do
Since this is the last time
My heart can bear
To visit with you.
