How to boost plant, equipment productivity

By our correspondent

Engineers have been urged to apply the best maintenance management practices possible to optimize the contribution of plant and equipment to increased productivity.

The call was made last Friday by the Director-General of the Tanzania Engineering & Manufacturing Design Organisation (TEMDO), Eng. G. Msolla, while closing a five- day course on Maintenance Management of Plant and Equipment conducted by TEMDO in Arusha. The major objective of the course was to sharpen knowledge and skills of participants on maintenance management techniques.

Eng. Msolla said maintenance of plant and equipment was increasingly getting expensive and if not properly managed, maintenance could seriously erode the profitability of enterprises and institutions which use plant and equipment in the execution of their core businesses. He urged the participants to put into practice the knowledge and skills they had gained during the course to prolong the service life of plant and equipment; to enhance the safety of users and operators of plant and equipment; and to improve overall availability and reliability of their plant and equipment.

The course was attended by engineers from Kilombero Sugar Company, Tanzania Harbours Corporation, Radio Tanzania Dar es Salaam and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority.
