"No Night to be a Knight at Braeburn"
By our correspondent
The theatrical talents of the students of Braeburn School were once again on
display last week in a tale of battling knights and dragons. But in a twist on
the traditional story of the brave Saint George slaying the evil dragon, the
audience witnessed a dastardly knight, the ghostly Sir Bad, getting his
come-uppance in the inescapable talons of the surprisingly good Mrs Dragon.
Not even the rain and the chill wind blowing down from Mount Meru could quench
the fire of this Dragon as she skilfully outwitted the scheming Sir Bad and his
blood-swilling cronies. Sir Bad, brought to life by the highly convincing Yash
Pandya, and his arch-enemy Mrs Dragon, played fearlessly by Tanu Sandhu, were
joined on stage by an array of characters, good and bad, courageous and
cowardly, to be found in the ill-fated town of Dead'n'bury. How lucky they were
that Mrs Dragon appeared on the scene to save them from the years of tyranny
imposed on them by Sir Bad.
Whilst the players on the stage sang and danced their way through this
fast-paced musical comedy, the audience sat rapt (and indeed wrapped!) on the
edge of their seats as they followed the on-stage battle between knight and
dragon. Judging by the expressions on their faces as they took their curtain
call, the young actors and actresses of Braeburn's Year 8 enjoyed the
performances every bit as much as the onlookers.
Although Sir Bad was definitely a knight who deserved to be forgotten, it was
certainly a night to remember in the school calendar at Braeburn. "The Knight
and the Dragon" is yet another success for Braeburn's Head of Music, Mr. Allen
Corbet, whose calm, assured direction ensured such excellent performances from
his students. His next production is eagerly awaited.
