One world bet at Masai Campby Liz Sengwaji
Masai Camp at Suye village, east of Arusha municipality will this weekend be among many venues across the world that will play music simultaneously to raise money for children with AIDS and others in distress. Musicians representing various groups will "beat as one" at Masai Camp on Saturday, March 20th from 6.00pm onwards. "One World beat" has about 100 events in 25 participating countries in the festival taking place simultaneously between March 19 - 21 this year. The festival of concerts provide a platform for socially conscious musicians to unite and convey a message of hope through their music. Musicians around the world will play to raise money for "Keep A Child Alive", a charity which provides medical equipment for children suffering with AIDS and HIV. "One World Beat Music Festival is not only a collaboration of musicians united in a global effort, it also serves as a platform for the thousands of local and international non-profit organisations currently working for a better social environment to communicate their message to a worldwide audience," says Andy Treichler, founder and creator of One World Beat. "In addition the festival provides an opportunity for thousands of every day citizens to get involved through voluntarism." It is supported by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). In Tanzania, the festival will benefit two causes. The global one is "Keep A Child Alive", a new initiative of Artists Against AIDS Worldwide, set up to provide life-saving medicine to children living with HIV/AIDS in the developing world who will die without it. Locally, the benefactor is "Mkombozi Centre for Street Children" who operate in Moshi and Arusha. They focus on providing education, shelter and empowerment for children in especially difficult circumstances and are helping to co-ordinate the event. Musicians are welcome and invited to come forward if they wish to contribute and perform. Please contact Jeff at Masai Camp or Smriti on 027 2754793. According to organizers of the event, everyone is welcome to enjoy it - the entrance is free (but donations are welcome!). In addition there will be a buffet dinner at Tsh.5,000 per
person (Tsh.1,000 of which goes to the mentioned causes).
