Grand East African choir concert next Saturdayby Valentine Marc Nkwame A grand East African choir concert, involving groups from Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania is scheduled to take place in Arusha next Saturday, the 22nd of November. The concert, organized by the Arusha Catholic archdiocese through the Saint Peter and Paul Catholic Parish of Kijenge, is aimed at propagating peace, unity and cooperation among the three East African member states. The Archdiocese secretary General, Dr. Richard N. Rwiza, said more than 370 guests from Uganda and Kenya are expected to be in Arusha for the event, whose highlight is set to take place at the Sheikh Amri Abeid stadium that Saturday as from 8.00 a.m to 6.00 p.m. Entrance is free of charge. More than120 guests will be coming from Nankulabye Uganda, while the Jomo Kenyatta University of Kenya is expected to bring a choir delegation of 30 people. The Assumption Community and Njiru Parish of Nairobi will also have 20 people. About 200 delegates are expected from Voi area of Kenya. Also in the entourage will be choir officials from Nankulabye-Uganda, Voi and Nairobi-Kenya, plus their hosts of St. Secilia choir of the Kijenge parish in Arusha. About 5,000 Arusha residents are expected to attend the open air mass and singing extravaganza. The East African choir concert, will be preceded by a procession of singers, church members and Catholic Archdiocese officials who will be marching from Kijenge to the stadium. At the stadium, Archbishop Josaphat Louis Lebulu will lead a special mass for peace and officiate a special agreement signing ceremony for the mutual bond of East African choirs. The choir concert will then follow that afternoon and later on the following day on Sunday as from 15:00 hours. According to the time table released by the Catholic Archdiocese of Arusha, visitors will arrive in town on Thursday, the 20th of November ready for the event. On Friday, the 21st of November, the East African choirs will record songs together at yet to be named studio, then practice for the Saturday extravaganza. The visiting guests are expected to depart from Arusha for their home towns on Monday the 25th of November.
