 Wazees soccer

Taking a leaf from Manchester United's book

By lutengano

It was business as usual last Sunday at the General Tyre sports grounds along Njiro road when the Wazees, about 35 of them, stormed the pitch to flex their tight and old muscles in the spirit of keeping fit through football.
Before the actual play, they first had to endure the tough but well placed warm up exercises by none other than the Cameroonian Tribunal staff, Oscar Tanifum, who had earlier in the morning arrived from abroad where he had gone on official duties. The Wazees trainer successfully stretched the Wazees stamina to the limit.

He was delighted by their surprisingly improved stamina, but was worried that they were yet to grasp the art of breaking the fall when hitting the ground with their generous bodies. This, he said, was why a number of them had their arms covered with bandages or Plaster-of -Paris.

The game itself was quite inspiring, though the team whose defence was marshaled Mzee Kaunda lost miserably with the final score being 4-0. The most memorable goal was by Mzee Gheho whose borderline shot slipped through the hands of the goalie and passed between his legs into the net.
Mzee Kisonka, who had earlier during the warm up session enthusiastically showed his running skills, was at one moment seen blindly protecting part of the pitch where his pair of spectacles had fallen. He was protecting them from other players who might crush them in the heat of moment. He later retrieved them, put them on, and proceeded with the match.

Mzee Dr. Makando’s dribbling skills were cut short by a muscle pull. He had to watch the better half of the match from the sidelines. At one moment Mzee Jebby was seen asking for medical advice on his ailing ankle. Mzee Makando pleaded with him to wait until he treats himself first before attending to the ankles.

Later the Wazees watched a live match between Manchester United and Liverpool, screened at the grounds by Multichoice. They vowed to put in practice the skills they saw in that FA Cup match.
