Woes of the Handicapped people in Simanjiro

Last week, the California-based, Wheelchair Foundation of the United States, donated 36 wheelchairs to the handicapped people of Simanjiro district, in Manyara region. Raymond John, who was present during the handing over ceremony at the Simanjiro Hospital in Emboreet ward, talked to some of the beneficiaries.

  • I used to move about with the help of a stick but now movement has been made easier by these wheelchairs.
The problems of moving to and from school have now ended, therefore this will
remain a memorable day for most of us forever.
Much as we would like to thank our kind donors, we would also like to ask them to assist other handicapped people especially those whose handicap can easily be treated and be restored into physical fitness.

A few years ago I got paralysed and could no longer walk without leaning onto a stick and even with that, I would easily fall.
This wheelchair has solved my movement problems as I can easily move about now. However, people like us are many and more help is needed.

Ever since I was born, I've just been staying at home due to my handicap. Movements were totally restricted and since my family is poor nothing could be done about that.
I longed for school but in vain. Now I am thinking of starting school, I look forward towards attending Church and even visiting all the people who used to visit me at home.

I was born well but became physically handicapped by a struck of polio which ended my movements. From then, walking was merely dragging myself with support of sticks.
Being a local tailor, this wheelchair will now make my profession less taxing, I am very happy about that.
One call to parents though: "Handicapped children are also human, deserving love, respect and care!"
