Alleged rape accomplice faces charges in courtby Happy Lazaro In the Sunday evening of 19th October 2003, a nine-year-old girl who was on her way to draw water from a well in Seela village of Arumeru district, was grabbed, pushed into a banana farm and defiled. The person who is alleged to have committed the sexual offence, has however escaped and still at large to-date, courtesy of his close friend, it is alleged. The friend, Peter Nasinda (39), a resident of Seela recently appeared in court being charged with helping the suspect to escape from the Police. Nasinda, according to the court charges, was also present when the offence was being committed and allegedly stood watching as his mate, Kadogoo Mathayo defiled the minor. Kadogoo, the real offender is said to have whisked the little girl into the banana plantation, filled her mouth with soil and entered the girl who withered in pain. Public prosecutor, Inspector Mohamed Kitia told the court that after the incident, the accused, Peter Nasinda promptly took the offender away and helped him to escape before the Police started looking for him. Meanwhile, the girl’s mother reported the matter to the Central Police Station, but when the Police went to the village, the accused had already escaped. However, it was later discovered that, his friend and accomplice, Peter Nasinda had something to do with the suspect’s escape. Nasinda was then arrested and taken to the Police station before appearing in court last week. The accused has however denied the charges but is still in court custody having lacked sureties. His bail remains open at Tsh.500,000 bond to be backed with two sureties. This case is set to be called for hearing on the 20th of November this year. The accused appeared before the District Magistrate, Phares Mbuge.
