Child and
reproductive health has always been a priority in Tanzania. The
Ministry of Health has indeed sustained the efforts of providing
essential health for both mothers and their children. The ministry
has also introduced the new National Package of Essential
Reproductive and Child Health Intervention in Tanzania, which covers
all basic and emergency services in all stages of child
reproduction.

Ever since the
government announced that health and clinic services for children
under five years will be provided free of charge the attendance of
expectant mothers in local clinic has been rising. This is since 1999.
The problem now lies solely on the
family. Most families can’t afford to raise their children on proper
diets, education and other essential needs due to poverty. |

We were quite
pleased with the government’s new order that expectants mothers
shouldn’t be forced to incur the cost of buying handling facilities or
equipment while going for their maternal services.
Health services for both expectant
mothers and babies are now also being provided free of charge
countrywide which is a commendable step. |
