BAKWATA donates 50 computers to Bondeni schoolby Nyamanoko Bwire The Muslim Council of Tanzania (BAKWATA) has donated 50 computers to its Arusha-based Bondeni secondary school, as a move to introduce computer literacy at the institution. Bondeni school headmaster, Athumani Yunus said that previously the school had only six computers and all of them were being used for administrative purposes. As for the newly donated computers, the school head said they will be used by students on the 4th of January next year. "Students who will be enrolled for the first and fifth forms in January 2004 will start with computer classes!" he said. Already eight teachers from the school have received computer training and these will be in charge of computer lessons according to Yunus. The school expects to get 40 more computers from a company known as Tanzania Technology on a special contract in which, each student will have to pay Tsh.20,000 per year. "The contract has already been finalized and soon, the said computer consignment will arrive, making the school to have 96 computer ," said the headmaster. Formed in1984 and being run by the Arusha Chapter of BAKWATA, The school has a total of 720 students and offers education in both Ordinary and Advanced secondary levels.
