Arusha students attend "UN Assembly session!"By Staff Writer
A team of five secondary school students from Arusha, recently attended a United Nations (UN) General Assembly session addressing peace and development in the new millennium. It was actually a mock UN Assembly session held at the Parliament Hall in Dodoma, involving 130 secondary schools from 16 regions of the Tanzanian Mainland. The Model UN General Assembly was also attended by 16 school teachers, one from each region. Rebecca Mbaga of Arusha Secondary, was the coordinator for the Arusha delegation. Students who represented Arusha in the "UN General Assembly" include: Robinson Mwaikunda of Arusha Secondary who played the "Ambassador from Arusha!" Others were, Sekela Eden of Kaloleni Secondary School , Innocent Mmbaga of Singe Secondary, Johannes Mbise of Enaboishu Secondary and Doita Issaih form Bondeni Secondary. The Arusha delegation was called to present issues affecting their region, all based on "their research" on community development in the area. Major issues that were discussed by the Arusha team were poverty, hunger, universal primary education plus gender equity and women empowerment.
