Five former students of Maasae school studying in USABy Happy Lazaro
Five students who completed Form six at the Maasae Girls Lutheran Secondary School in the Monduli District, are now studying at Concordia University in the United States. Others are enrolled in the University of Dar es Salaam, Tumaini and Catholic University of Nairobi, Kenya. This was revealed by Bishop Thomas Laiser of the Diocese in Arusha Region of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT) while speaking last week at the school’s graduation ceremony. Thirty-seven form four leavers were awarded school leaving certificates. Bishop Thomas Laiser suggested that former students of the school who have now completed teaching courses should be given the opportunity to teach pastoral societies. He urged the Maasae Girls school teachers to emphasize on mathematics and science subjects so that the students could be more useful for the nation. Construction of the school, which has cost more than US dollars 3 million, is almost complete. The school was constructed using donations from the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. Earlier, the Headmistress of the School, Mrs. Mary Laiser said that the school, which started in 1995 has 254 students. She said that the school still had inadequate classrooms and teachers quarters. In their remarks during the ceremony the students complained of poor security within the premises which has led to rampant incidents of thefts.
