Two Class Seven graduates in court for alleged rape

by Happy Lazaro

Just one month after sitting for their Class Seven examinations, two former pupils of Suye primary school have appeared in court to answer charges of rape, an offence which they allegedly committed while at school last year.

The two school leavers, both 15 years old (names withheld), residents of Kimandolu area, are accused of sexually defiling a 10-year- old girl now in Class Five.

Pressing the charges before Resident Magistrate, Shadrack Ringo, the public prosecutor, Inspector Stellah Rweyemamu, said the accused committed the offence last year, on the 1st of September.

The accused, who were then Class Six pupils defiled the victim in Kimandolu area at about 8:00 pm. The victim was on her way to buy salt from a shop located near White Rose Bar.

It is alleged that the boys held a knife onto her face and threatened to hurt the girl should she dare to scream.

After the ordeal the girl limped home where she reportedly fell onto her bed and slept through the night into the following morning without uttering a word.

In the morning, the girl wouldn’t wake up for school and this caused her mother to inquire further. The girl said she was suffering from a boil.

But when her mother inspected the girl, she discovered bruises and swelling on the girl’s private parts.

The girl was then forced to explain the causes of her injuries. She was taken to hospital and her two alleged tormentors were arrested by the Police.

When the charges were read before the defendants, they both denied the case. The accused are currently out on bail awaiting the second hearing set for November 11.
