Black Gold

Underneath the earth crust
With the swelling womb of fortune
Pregnant with saline and debris
The decomposing dinosaurs
Photosynthesis that captured energy
With bacteria and temperatures
Pressures traversing time and memory
Now he pain of the earth

Ken Saro Wiwa dying of shame
With the riches in the delta
With flames and heat
The black gold to be reached
Through fire or paper
With strife abound everywhere
Not only in Iraq
As Sudan is encroached with ware

Ancient seas and lagoons the genesis
Mother sun the provider
As the chemistry ensued
Thanks to the bacteria and limestone
The purity of nature amazing
But now the pain persisting
With outcry in Peru and Mexico

Black coal of industrial revolution
The bowels of the earth remains
The pinnacle of power and policy
And now the black gold
The mother of all pains
With AK 47 arrogantly brandished
In the shoulders of teenagers and mothers
Thrown upon one another
For the black gold to be siphoned
