UN Day packed with fun

ICTR beats General Tyre 5-0 in soccer match

The annual United Nations (UN) Day, is being observed in Arusha this week by the UN International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (UN-ICTR).

Running under the theme: "Cultural Diversity and Sensitivity!" the three day event covering Friday (24th), Saturday 25th) and Sunday (26th) is being staged at the ICTR premises within the Arusha International Conference Centre (AICC) complex.

The curtain raising event for the UN Day activities took place at the General Tyre grounds in Njiro last Saturday, the 18th of October.

It was dubbed, the UN Family Fun Day, consisting of children face painting and clowns from Silver Mountain School, games such as tug of war, egg racing, sack racing and other kiddie events in which orphans from the Usa River Orphanage also participated.

A soccer match between ICTR staff and General Tyre employees followed , with the former thrashing the latter a total of five goals to nil.

Scorers included, Junior Larossa, Beyan Harris, Ben Harris and Fido Demba. According to Saida Kessy, ICTR staff association, public relations officer, prizes were donated by Tanzania Breweries Limited (TBL) and presented by the Registrar, Adama Dieng and the staff association president for the ICTR, Phyllis Grobl.
