What can games and game reserves possibly have in common?

The Arusha- based, Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA) intends to establish sporting activities in all the country’s 12 national parks and game reserves, a strategy which, is set to commence soon.

This was revealed by TANAPA’s Finance and Administration Director, Adamson Kariwa, during a special ceremony held in honour of the TANAPA soccer team, last week.

The team had just clinched victory in the national parastatal and private companies games (SHIMMUTA) that were held in Arusha municipality recently.

Speaking on behalf of the TANAPA Acting Director General, Gerald Bigurube, Mr. Kariwa pointed out that most of their staff members work in the parks and reserves where apparently, there are no recreation activities.

"Our soccer team’s victory has given us a great challenge", said Kariwa, adding that, his authority was laying down strategies to introduce proper facilities for them.

According to the director, each national park will now be expected to introduce various types of games for their male and female members of staff and that TANAPA head offices shall equip them with expert trainers, facilities and other forms of assistance.

In the just ended SHIMMUTA games, TANAPA football team thrashed Arusha Meat Company 2-1 during the final match with both goals being slotted in by Hassan Jumanne.

Apart from topping the soccer matches, TANAPA were also champions of the Darts games in the same SHIMMUTA bonanza.

Team manager and captain, Archi Ngomelo presented the trophy, sport kit and shoes to the TANAPA administration director as the staff welfare manager, Silvanus Nnunduma looked on.

Last year, the SHIMMUTA games were held in Morogoro region but TANAPA soccer team managed the second position.
