Team 100, National Service top Arusha Half Marathonby Nassib Majamba Margareth Irro, An athlete from the National Service (JKT) team, topped the ladies version of Arusha Mini Marathon which was held here last Sunday. The lady runner, covered the 10-kilometre distance in 41 minutes and 5 seconds, winning Tsh.100,000 cash prize presented to her by the National Athletic Chairman, Eliasi Sulusu, who was the guest of honour. The second position in the ladies’ category went to Zaituni Jumanne of Team 100, who finished the race in 41 minutes and 47 seconds. She was awarded Tsh.75,000. Sarah Moja, a runner from the Police College of Moshi (CCP) finished in the third position and managed to cash in Tsh.60,000. In overall results, a young and upcoming athlete, Naftali Daxo, a member of Team 100 topped the entire 21 kilometre marathon in 64 minutes and 46 seconds. Daxo apparently, had just jetted in from Italy where he had also participated in a similar 21 kilometre marathon in which he had finished in the second position. The athlete was also awarded the first position prize of Tsh.100,000 like his female counterpart. Daniel Andrea from National service (JKT) who covered the distance in 64 minutes and 47 seconds, finished second and got awarded the cash prize of Tsh.75,000. All the way from Nairobi rural, the Kenyan Fred Getange managed the third position having run the 21 kilometre distance in 64 minutes and 51 seconds, cashing in Tsh.60,000. The Arusha International Half Marathon which involved 120 athletes was organized by the Arusha Regional Amateur Athletic Association (ARAAA) in conjunction with Team 100 Club and sponsored by Tanzania Breweries (TBL) through their Kilimanjaro Premium Lager beer brand.
