The way I see the Arusha Festival

The Arusha Festival held from September 5 to 7 was indeed one of the largest crowd pullers in the municipality. Despite the glee of the occasion, some residents have their own reservations.

The Arusha Festival event is good. It serves as a platform for local artists to meet and exchange ideas. However, the organizers of Boma Road festivals need to focus on their targeted groups, because the shows have become a beer and "Nyama Choma" affair.

Also, we don’t have many roads in Arusha thus adding the problem of closing such an important link which leads to both Mount Meru and the AICC hospital is unforgivable.

Imagine if there was a case of sick patients who needed fast treatment!

The festivals along Boma Road have always been a nuisance to me, imagine sealing off other people’s businesses by erecting stalls at the door steps for the sheer reason of drinking and dancing.

We suggest that next time these events should take place on a different venue, because Boma Road is also a residential area and people need to sleep.

Also, there is a need to cut down on alcohol and "Nyama Choma" for maximum effect of the event.

The groups that performed during this year’s Boma Road festival, went contrary to our social ethics by dancing semi naked.

At night, people were very drunk and some paired up and started doing questionable things in dark alleys. The festival displayed male youths wearing earrings, plaited hair while their female counterparts, dressed rather revealingly.

Next time maybe, some serious supervision will be needed to bring the situation under control.

I still can not understand the meaning of Boma Road festival because all clothes being

displayed there were too expensive. The whole thing was about selling beer and roast meat.

The show was also a nuisance to nearby businesses and offices such as those of KLM, ATC, Ethiopian Airline, Coastal Aviation, Precision Air, NIC and TTCL.

Mind you, the street also has residential premises whose occupants could not sleep due to the noises. We appeal to organizers of Boma Road festivals to shift these events elsewhere so as not to inconvenience others.
