Minister may sign in soonBy staff writer Last Sunday it was business as usual as members of the Wazee Club slogged for more than three hours on the General Tyre sports grounds along Njiro road. Most of them had been inspired by the speech made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Co-operation Hon. Jakaya Kikwete the previous day. The Minister who was guest of honour during the silver jubilee celebrations of the Arusha International Conference Centre held at the same grounds commended the Wazees for their weekly exercises which are always accompanied by music. He promised he would join them the next time he is Arusha. Fresh on the field that day was none other than Mzee Dewasi, the famous architectural consultant in town. Making his maiden appearance he sent strong indications to opponents that he had stamina and football tactics. Mzee Dewasi tightly marked the defence making Mzee Abdallah, his goalie enjoy some sought after rest. On the other side, goalie Mzee Diop, the Senegalese, who is Chief Security Officer with the UN-ICTR, proved quite a stumbling block to the sharp forwards who included Mzee Prof. Hirji, Mzee Mike Taylor, Mzee Sanda and Mzee Makanza, Chief of World Vision. The later was at one time seen rolling on the turf in his futile bid to score a goal. But it was not all roses for Mzee Diop because he soon suffered a muscle pull and was replaced by Mzee Money of gemstones fame. Mzee Money lived up to Mzee Diop’s goalkeeping expertise. It was only after the dangerous Mzee Nuru suffered a hand facture that Mzee Money allowed two goals to pass by, saying "it was out of sympathy for Mzee Nuru." Also making his maiden appearance was Mzee Mbugi, who traveled all the way from Mbeya to join the Wazees. His towering figure manned the defence so effectively making it difficult for the likes Mzee David Tuhoye, Mzee Malla and Mzee Bachubila to make a great impact. Mzee Mikasi, who has now made tremendous improvement and Mzee Tondi were later after the match seen to be limping. But they soon recovered after getting treatment in the form of frothy liquids being served at the grounds. Final score was 3-2 in favour of Mzee Money’s team.
