Lions Club conduct eye camp at Mto-wa-Mbuby MaryCleofa Shirima of SAUT The Lions Club of Arusha in collaboration with doctors from Ophthalmic Department Arusha Regional Hospital recently conducted a major eye-camp at Mto-wa-Mbu Health Centre where 278 patients were screened.. Convenor of Sight-First committee, Lion Ramesh Soni said of the screened patients, 24 were diagnosed with Cataract and others suffered from Trachoma and other ailments. About 200 pairs of spectacles were given out and doctors administered medicines where necessary. According to Lion Chairman Suryakant Kalyani, the club will conduct 6 to 7 eye-camps in the areas where the services are needed in Arusha and Manyara regions in 2003/2004. He thanked authorities of the Regional Hospital and Mto-wa-Mbu Health Centre staff for the support accorded to them. He also paid tribute to their sister clubs in Australia - Lions Club of Redcliffe Kipparing Queensland and Lions Club of Morayfield for providing the sight-first program with eye-glasses and other forms of support. Zone Chairman of Zone ‘9' Tanzania Region ‘C’ Lion Satish Sharma participated in this activity and thanked all the Lions for the humanitarian work they were doing.
