Accident mars car theft mission at Longido

Kenyans arrested for alleged crime

by Happy Lazaro

The arrest of the two Kenyans, reported to have been driving a stolen car, was made easier when the suspect’s vehicle was involved in an accident in Longido area of Monduli district.

This was said by Inspector of Police, Hassan Nuru when presenting the case before the Resident Magistrate, Rosalia Mugissa at the Resident Magistrate Court, this week.

He named the Kenyan citizens as Jacob Kithia (27) and Harrison Mwenda (30), both residents of Nairobi city, alleged to have stolen the Nissan Sunny vehicle with Kenyan number plate KAP 233Y.

Police reports indicated that, the car had been stolen in Kenya and it was being brought to Arusha, but somehow the Police suspected the vehicle and set out in hot pursuit.

The dangerously high speed, car chase which lasted for some time, ended in Longido area, when the suspect’s vehicle swerved off road and hit a nearby tree.

The impact was so big that, the car also bounced and overturned. The two accused persons were injured.

The accident occurred at about 1.30 p.m. according to the charges. The stolen car was being brought into the country to be sold.

Of the two accused, only Kithia managed to turn up in court for the case mention because Mwenda is still admitted at the Mount Meru hospital.

The accused has denied the charges, but both of them have been refused bail as they don’t have any passport, beside the defendants have no permanent address.

The accused will remain under custody throughout their case hearing sessions, with the next mention coming up on the 18th of September.
