Club spearheads ward refurbBy Happy Lazaro and Naomi Mwakasege
The New Century Lion Club of Arusha has rehabilitated a ward for premature babies at the Mount Meru Regional hospital at the cost of shs. 2.5m/- raised by members of the Club whose ages range from 18 to 35 years. Speaking during the handing over of the ward to the hospital’s officials last week, the Club’s chairman Mr. Hiten Nathwani said that the amount of money was used to renovate rooms, beds and provide other equipment. The ward has three rooms whereby each room contains four beds and each bed will accommodate three babies. Members of the New Century Lion Club who were involved in the initiative include Manish Chavda , Mitesh, Kajal, Rosy, Yogesh and Jaymala. Others were Hema, Reema, Bhavti, Neha, L Rakhee and Vinod. The Arusha District Commissioner, Mr. Flugence Saria who was guest of honour during the handover event, said that the club undertook a very difficult task to renovate the entire pre-mature ward and furnish it with all the necessary equipment. He congratulated them for the effort. The club has plans to host an eye camp to diagnose and treat eye patients.
