Man strips his mother naked in botched rape attemptby Happy Lazaro A peasant resident of Sanawari area, has recently appeared in court for allegedly stripping his mother naked in a botched rape attempt. The accused, Wilson Fred (28), is reported to have tried to rape his mother in the early morning of Saturday, the 14th of June 2003. Pressing the charges before the Resident Magistrate, Amir Msumi, the public prosecutor, Inspector Ramadhan Kimgai told the court that, the accused had forced his way into his mother’s bedroom, at their Sanawari residence. She tried to scream but the young man muffled the sound by choking her mouth with one hand, while tearing off her night dress. However, after some struggles, the mother succeeded to shout for help, thus bringing her two daughters, who were sleeping in a different room, to come to their mother’s rescue. They reportedly rushed out, screaming for help in panic, bringing neighbours to the scene. The accused, seeing the multitude of people fled into a thicket near an adjacent river. His mother, meanwhile is said to have suffered some injuries in the course of the struggles. When these charges were read before the defendant, he denied them. Although an open bail bond of Tsh.500,000 with one surety was granted to him, he lacked the relevant sureties to bail him out. He is back in custody.
